[ They had first seen each other at the qualifications. Both of them were newcomers to the sport, with something to prove. Ushijima didn't speak to to Terushima, not wanting to lose focus of what he wanted to accomplish that day. But he couldn't help eye the other newcomer, curious to see what he might bring to the sport.
Loudness and an almost flagrant disregard to every aspect, it seems. (But he can see the skill, hidden behind that loud persona. Ushijima just wishes that he focused on that instead.)
They walked in next to each other during the ceremony, and while Ushijima was polite in his waving at the crowd, right next to him, Terushima was as loud as ever. He turned to glare at him, right when Terushima was turning to look at him. Their eyes met and they paused and then Terushima stuck out his tongue and Ushijima saw that tongue piercing for the first time.
(He wonders why he spent the rest of the ceremony thinking about that piercing.)
Immediately afterwards, Terushima grabbed him and pulled him away from everyone else. Their events aren't for several days, Terushima said, so they have some time to bond.
He supposes since they're going to be judged as a team as well, it's only fair.
Which is how he finds himself in Yuuji's room, glass of... something alcoholic in his hand. It smells strong, which is why he's taken to only sipping at the drink for now. ]
